How can one make better conversations? Are conversations really that important? Are conversations the only way to build network? Well, WHAT ELSE!
Regardless, the topic for today is Meta Honesty and how it is the best way to start a conversation, let it be a colleague, fellow classmate or someone you want to interact professionally. I'll not give you alot of gyaan (there's quite alot on internet already), I'll lead you with a story, it was the time when I had just joined classes for Junior College and apparently there was this shy guy who wouldn't talk much. It had just been three days since the coaching had begun, and this strange guy comes up to me and begins a conversation, now, when I think about that conversation I remember it being a really smooth one, he didn't know me or my interests but within few seconds somehow he made me really comfortable with him.
Now, what did he exactly start with? He just led his way with a simple "Hey, I don't really know anyone here but you seem like an interesting person to talk to!". That's it! He came, he expressed his vulnerability and built the foundation for a really nice conversation. Thinking of that incident, I always think that I never realised he indirectly used Meta Honesty to initiate a conversation and nail it!
Well, this brings me to another incident right around the first week of the college where this random girl was with a bunch of people and came up to me saying, "Hey, we all just met today, do you want to join in?" And just such things lead to really, really great connections. Well, people are usually open to talk and engage, but most people would find it difficult to start a conversation with almost anyone so next time you're out there and want to start a conversation with anyone, just, BE HONEST! Be honest about yourself, about the situation, about the surroundings, just anything the other person can easily relate to and get comfortable letting you in.
On this note, if you find this intriguing, make sure you consiously give this concept a thought and have conversations, this is how we truly adapt. Signing off! (Just incase, this added any value, consider subscribing to the blog.)
